Hi! We are Maureen and brendan

We are from Wilmington, Delaware.

To us, this isn’t just about your child but ensuring that you are supported and safe throughout. We are lucky to both come from large, supportive families which will be a massive help to us and a terrific environment for your child to learn and interact.

Challenges having children on our own doubled our resolve to be the best parents we can to a child. Adoption is not foreign to us. Two of our relatives, due to personal reasons, placed children. Brendan’s best friend is adopted and learning from his family about the joy that experience brought to the child and parents was incredible. Thank you so much for learning about and considering us!

Why we’re adopting

We are adopting because we would love to expand our family.

We both have always wanted to become parents. Building a family much like the large families we came from is our goal. We love the idea of having and being a support system, building memories and being part of a unit. While infertility caused a bump in the road, it hasn’t dampened our desire to have a family.

Knowing family and close friends who have placed children and who have been adopted has shown us how great and positive this experience can be for all involved.

Our story

A modern rom-com storyline, our story began via a dating app.

Fate finally had enough of us missing each other. We went to the same college, lived in the same city, went to high school and worked with each others relatives, but somehow never met! When we finally did, everything just fit. Within weeks, we knew we had finally found our match. With all of these connected moments, it’s not a surprise that we meshed. While Brendan is always looking for something to do and experiencing odd things, Maureen is there to support the idea, even if it is not her cup of tea. Maureen’s patience, sense of humor, and innate desire to support everyone she cares about made a perfect match for Brendan’s adventurous mind, who is always hoping to find something great for everyone to experience. We exercise, go to concerts, and travel as much as we can. Experiences are what make our life full.

The most important thing you should know about us

We are best friends. Our favorite past time is spending time together. We are here today because we believe we will be great parents to a child and are willing to do any and all of the hard work we know that comes with the responsibility.

Our home

We were both raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and spent our summers on the Jersey Shore in Avalon and Ocean City.

While we enjoyed living in cities during our twenties, we’ve grown accustomed to a slower life style and moved a couple years ago to Wilmington, Delaware. Our home is on a great corner and has a porch where we get to see and chat with people from around the neighborhood. The open living/dining rooms make it easy to entertain and fill the house with music. We have fallen in love with the area as it provides a friendly neighborhood with sidewalks and parks, yet still affords us quick trips into Philadelphia and is in driving distance to visit our families. Our neighborhood is the perfect blend of suburban parks and walkable activities. In the summer, our local park offers free live music every Monday night, and the Art Museum, 6 blocks away, provides art tours and jazz every Thursday night. For children, there are numerous playgrounds in walking distance and a children’s museum and zoo in close proximity. For our dog, the area has a dog park and hiking trails that we visit regularly. Within blocks of our home are several great restaurants.

Our dog Teddy: Our loving Golden Retriever, Teddy, is 1.5 years old. With squinty eyes, and a tongue that’s too big for his mouth, he has brought more joy into our lives than we ever could have expected. His favorite past time includes eating peanut butter, squeezing between us on the sofa and in bed, taking a morning trip to the dog park, hiking in the woods or swimming at the beach. He is the mayor of our street and loves the attention. He keeps us busy, active and loved.

Our Loved Ones

Maureen is one of five children. She was raised in a close family and had the privilege of growing up with an identical twin sister. Her parents encouraged family togetherness—eating dinner together every night, playing games, watching movies, attending Sunday mass and taking vacations together. She learned many family values from her parents and siblings that she believes would benefit raising a child.

Brendan is the youngest of 5 siblings and has over 30 cousins! His oldest brother, and two sisters live near the home they grew up in. He has another brother in Indiana who visits regularly. His sisters are both in clinical research for major pharmaceuticals, while one brother runs a commercial bakery and the other is an exec at a software firm. While Brendan’s family are all very different individuals, there is a common sense of humor and enjoyment of each others company. All of their friends mesh and are shared across the family. Brendan will regularly spend time with his siblings friends and vice versa.

IN OUR FREE TIME

Living an active lifestyle is important to us. We both ran marathons in Boston, California and New York City, hike, practice yoga and play tennis. We both love the beach. Brendan loves the woods; Maureen likes them. Additionally, we love music (playing records at home or attending live shows/concerts). We also love planning vacations and traveling. Brendan lived in Philadelphia, Louisville, New York, Dublin, London and Chicago, and Maureen lived in Philadelphia, Boston and New York. We have traveled to foreign countries and look forward to visiting more places with a new baby/child.

At home, we enjoy watching documentaries/binging new television series, cooking dinner or playing Scrabble. When it comes to spending time with our family, we look forward to taking our nieces and nephews to amusement/water parks, bowling, roller skating, fishing, kayaking, miniature golfing or shopping for their birthdays. We can’t wait to see what interests our child. Whether it’s sports, the arts, travel or all three, we can’t wait to do it together. Finally, we love the holidays. We try our best to balance spending equal amounts of time with both of our families for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Decorating, making and sharing the big family meals, having some traditions, and hanging out with friends and family are what make the holidays enjoyable for us.

Thank you!

We are incredibly grateful to you for taking the time to learn about us and for us to be in consideration for being in a position to take care of your child.

We will not take the responsibility lightly. Our goal is to help this child lead the best life we can provide. We feel it’s important for them to know who they are and where they came from and make sure they know that every decision made for them is made with love and caring. We are blessed to come from strong families. Knowing that we have grown into the people we are today because of them gives us the desire to offer that experience to a child.

We are here today because we believe we will be great parents to a child and are willing to do any and all of the hard work we know that comes with the responsibility.
